Lou Brettell

Louise Brettell best known as Lou is a humble, diplomatic, and compassionate Counsellor. She believes in soulful thoughts and connections in life. She holds a Master of Counselling, Bachelor of Fine Arts and Graduate Diploma of Counselling. Lou is a registered Counsellor with the Australian Counselling Association.

Lou creates a counselling space with intentionality, warmth and safety.  She wishes to support her clients in knowing themselves more deeply, soulfully, and further develop their self-compassion, awareness, and sense of autonomy. Lou believes in co-collaborating with her clients and values a person-centred approach.

Lou has a creative background and believes creative practices within the therapy space including intuition and play processes may promote healing by uncovering emotions that non-traditional talk forms may not reach. Lou believes in value setting, client empowerment and challenging clients on breaking negative and toxic behaviour patterns.

Louise has experience in facilitating group therapy including children, adolescence, and adults. She has experience working with ADHD, ASD and works part-time within the disability sector.

Personal mapping (inner healing and intuitive processes) Each session is tailored to the client needs; and explores themes and challenges. Intuitively exploring any blockages or areas that need to be processed. May conclude with a breathing exercise, visualisation or mindfulness in order to provide clarity and emotional alignment for the nervous system.

What are Expressive Therapies? Aims to bring unconscious memories and emotions forward by using alternative mediums such as play, painting, drawing, storytelling and creativity. Using both unstructured and structured art making fosters emotional wellbeing and boosts social confidence. Provides a deeper awareness by tapping into the visceral experiences as opposed to the rational cognitive functions of the brain.
